Health Screening for FREE under PERKESO

Health Screening for FREE under PERKESO?!

  • The HSP is a scheme introduced by PERKESO since 2013 to offer free health screening for workers (contributors) for early detection of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney/liver disease, cancer.
  • Over time it has been enhanced (HSP 2.0, HSP 3.0) to broaden scope, include mental-health screening, family health risk assessment, and more parameters.
  • The digital platform SEHATi (or SEHATI) supports HSP by enabling registration/eligibility, linking clinics/labs, and managing data.

Who is Eligible?

  • Typically, Malaysian workers who are active contributors under PERKESO’s Invalidity Scheme.
  • For HSP 2.0: Workers aged 30-39 who have risk of NCDs also eligible.
  • For HSP 3.0: Workers aged 40-59 (or older) eligible; also those who may have undergone previously are reoffered
    screening.
  • Must have made contributions: e.g., certain months of contribution under Invalidity Scheme.

What is Covered / Screening Package?

  • The screenings typically include:
  • Physical examination, consultation with doctor.
  • Laboratory tests — e.g., full blood count (FBC), HbA1c (to detect diabetes), lipid profile (cholesterol), renal & liver profiles, tumour markers for cancer detection.
  • Additional parameters: mental-health screening; family health risk assessment (introduced in HSP 2.0) to keep it relevant for workers.
  • For female workers: additional tests like mammogram, Pap smear (for breast & cervical cancer risk) in some packages.

How to Participate?

  • Workers check their eligibility (via SEHATi app/portal) and/or employer arranges screening.
  • A panel clinic/lab will conduct screening once eligible. (Some large employers also arrange on-site screening via mobile units)
  • After screening, results and follow-up advice are provided. Workers may receive consultation on results
    and next steps.

Important Notes & Improvements!

  • The programme is free (for eligible contributors) to encourage early detection of NCDs and reduce disability or early death due to such diseases.
  • HSP 2.0 included more age groups (30-39) and broadened scope (mental health, family health risk).
  • HSP 3.0 (introduced in 2023) further expanded screening parameters; per one document it runs from 16
  • May 2023 until 31 Dec 2023 under a matching-grant scheme.
Employers and workers both benefit: healthier workforce → higher productivity, less risk of serious health problems among contributors.
